Currently most
mini breeds are registered as Experimentals.
There are currently about 1500 Experimental
Mini Dairy Goats registered with MDGA (and growing). At the
3rd generation, Experimental Mini Dairy Goats can be
considered for entry in the American Herdbook within the
MDGA. After 3 generations as Americans, they can be
considered for entry in the Purebred Mini Herdbook.
There have been some Minis that have be accepted into the
American Mini Herdbook as of 2004. At this time
there are none in the Purebred Herdbook. For showing purposes
all mini breeds are judged using the ADGA or
AGS dairy goat scoring systems and standards
(depending on which organization the judge is
accredited with). Any qualified dairy goat
judge or otherwise qualified persons may be
approved to judge an MDGA show.
The individual Mini breeds
will be judged with the same standard as the
full size dairy goats with the height
restriction being 1/2 inch below the
minimum height for the same standard breed.
Nubian, Alpine and
Saanen Mini does may be 29 1/2 inches tall or
less.
Nubian, Alpine and Saanen Mini bucks
may be 31 1/2 inches tall or less.
LaMancha,
Oberhasli and Toggenberg Mini does may be 27 1/2
inches tall or less. LaMancha, Oberhasli and
Toggenberg Mini bucks may be 29 1/2 inches tall
or less.
In an Experimental
Mini
Goat Show, a Mini goat that is over the
maximum height limit will be severely faulted
but will not be disqualified. All Minis at
or under the maximum height are allowed and should not
be faulted or penalized regardless of what their height
may be within the approved range.
Judges may use their discretion
and only need to measure Mini goats that appear to be
near the maximum height. Mini goats that win CH or
RCH will be measured when tattoos are checked for the
sanction paperwork.
For competition in
Experimental Shows, the Mini breeds will be
judged for conformation/udders first and breed
character second. Breed character will become
more important when the mini breeds are
accepted into a Purebred Herdbook.
As the Purebred Herdbook is
established, Purebred and Experimental
animals may be judged together or separately
as long as sanction requirements are met. If
Purebred Mini breeds are judged with
Experimental Mini breeds, the Experimental
show rules will be used.
Sanction for MDGA Mini Shows
will be 8 animals with 2 exhibitors. At least
3 animals must be in milk in an Open Doe
Show. At least 3 animals must be over 12
months for an Open Buck Show.
Mini goats need not be
registered with MDGA to compete in a MDGA
sanctioned Experimental Show. However, if a
non MDGA registered Mini wins a GCH leg in an
Experimental Show, the leg will be presented
to the RGCH -if it is MDGA registered.
A Mini goat that belongs to a MDGA
member is considered registered with MDGA and will have
an official win as long as the registration paperwork
has been mailed to MDGA prior to the show date (provided
the registration information is correct and the Mini is
accepted for registration).
All Mini goats that are
shown in an Experimental Mini Show,
regardless of registry, will count toward the
sanction numbers. The show Secretary does not need
to check the registration papers before a show unless
the show committee requires it. All Minis may be
shown whether they are registered with MDGA or IDGR or
even if they are not registered at all.
All Mini goats in an MDGA
sanctioned American or Purebred ONLY Mini Show MUST be
registered with MDGA.
